The first phase of the ceasefire and hostage release deal between Israel and Hamas has expired. And it is doubtful whether a second phase of the agreement can be achieved. With a return to fighting looming, lasting peace and security seem less likely than ever. In this complex situation, US President Donald Trump has put forward a disruptive plan for resolving the conflict and rebuilding Gaza. The plan has been heavily criticized in both the Arab world and Europe because it would require the at least temporary relocation of two million Palestinians from Gaza.

How realistic is Trump’s latest approach? Is Egypt’s plan to rebuild Gaza a viable alternative? What role can and should Europe play in this conflict? We would like to discuss these and other questions and proposals with our distinguished speakers, who represent the current discourse in the United States, Germany and Israel.

With:

  • Dr. Avner Golov, Vice President Research & Alliances, MIND Israel
  • Dr. Jonathan Schanzer, Executive Director, Foundation for Defense of Democracies
  • Dr. Bente Scheller, Head of Middle East and North Africa Division, Heinrich Böll Foundation
