Joe Biden’s presidential election in November 2020 was welcomed by many in the German government who anticipated a rebuilding of the U.S.-German relationship under the new administration. However, the tumultuous four years of the previous administration challenged the partnership substantially, and the international and domestic political environment have changed. Together with Steven Pifer, we discuss why rebuilding the German-American partnership may be harder than initially assumed.
