The Group of the Transatlantic Study Trip for American Teachers 2023 in front of Brandenburg Gate, Berlin
When: June 7 – June 16, 2025
Participants: 15 teachers from the United States
Trip includes visits to: Munich, Chemnitz, Dresden, Berlin
Atlantik-Brücke’s Transatlantic Study Trip offers a unique opportunity for American social studies, world history, and German teachers to travel to Germany, learn about the country’s society, its political institutions, history, and culture first-hand. Participants return to the United States with new perspectives and a vivid perception of modern Germany which they can share with students, colleagues, and friends. During the week-long study trip, teachers visit schools, museums, and other cultural sights. They meet with German decision makers from the fields of politics, media, business, and education. Atlantik-Brücke has offered these study trips for over 30 years and has in the process welcomed hundreds of American teachers from various regions of the United States to Germany.
Participants from previous study trips consistently describe the week as transformational, life-changing, and extremely fruitful for their lessons and personal development. Not only does the program offer new insight into Germany, it also spurs reflection, offers new material to enrich teachers’ curriculum, and provides a platform for making personal connections with teachers from Germany and peers from the United States. The language of the study tour is English.
Atlantik-Brücke Study Trips are open to American teachers who teach social studies, world history, and/or German. Preference is given to middle and high school teachers. We welcome applications from teachers residing in any of the 50 states. As the trip’s success depends on the active participation of the delegates, candidates should express a genuine interest in global affairs and cultural exchange. They are expected to get involved in the meetings offered during the study tour in order to bring new perspectives into their classroom and community. Applicants need to commit to the entire duration of the trip. Since days during the trip tend to be long and we will be walking quite a bit, you should feel mentally and physically fit to attend.
The trip is fully funded. Atlantik-Brücke provides transatlantic roundtrip flights, transportation within Germany, accommodation, group meals and other incidentals (e.g. entrance fees). Also, transportation to and from the U.S. departure city are covered by Atlantik-Brücke.

“I feel I have a lot of personal stories – real names, with real faces – to bring back to my students and my school, that I did not have before. And so many of these stories, though unique and situated in the ‘German history’, have something universal to communicate that our students need to hear.” – Participant from California, Study Trip 2013
“This was the best experience I have had in Germany. The assortment of people and topic fields was so diverse that I feel that every corner of my Germany picture has begun to fill in. Making the personal connection and simply being able to ask questions without judgment was invaluable.” – Participant from Texas, Study Trip 2014
„When I was younger, I was told that the world is only as big as a person can see. Through this trip, you have opened my eyes in a way that words cannot properly articulate. I am forever grateful for Atlantik-Brücke coming into my life and for being accepted into the program”. – Participant from Pennsylvania, Study Trip 2015
“This trip to Germany has been an incredibly insightful and enlightening experience for me on so many levels. From start to finish, everything was meticulously planned and flawlessly organized.” – Participant from Arizona, Study Trip 2024
