German-Canadian Conference 2025

Building on almost four decades of constructive bilateral exchange, this year’s conference will again gather a high-level group of Germans and Canadians to discuss current challenges and opportunities for cooperation in various policy fields based on shared interests and values.

The conference will kick off in the afternoon of Sunday, May 4, with a cultural activity, followed by an opening reception in the evening. On Monday, May 5, the National Arts Centre opens its doors to welcome our guests and speakers for an all-day conference. Following the discussions, participants are invited to join our dinner reception at the official residence of the German Ambassador to Canada. The second conference day, Tuesday, May 6, will be opened by a fireside chat between the Speaker of the House of Commons, Greg Fergus, and the German Ambassador to Canada, Matthias Lüttenberg. The conference will conclude at noon with a lunch reception.

Topics discussed during the conference will include the most pressing themes in German-Canadian relations: geopolitical shifts and challenges in defence partnership will be the topic of one session as well as tariffs and trade, AI and the future of the media landscape and climate neutrality and regional developments. Furthermore, in the light of the recent German federal election and the results of the upcoming federal election in Canada, we will discuss national priorities from both elections, immigration and migration in Canada and Germany, economic competitiveness and both countries‘ commitment to multilateralism.

The conference will be chaired by Professor Dr. Michael Hüther, Director & Member of the Presidium, German Economic Institute; Vice-Chairman, Atlantik-Brücke, and Nik Nanos, Founder & Chief Data Scientist, Nanos Research; Chairman, Atlantik-Brücke Canada.
