Eric M. Warburg Award Ceremony 2024
This year's Eric M. Warburg Prize was awarded to NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg for his outstanding commitment to transatlantic friendship and partnership. Dr. Irina Scherbakowa, co-founder of the human rights organization Memorial in 1987, delivered the laudation. The award was presented by Boris Pistorius, Minister of Defence and our Chairman Sigmar Gabriel gave the welcoming address.
70 Years of Atlantik-Brücke

Former U.S. Ambassador in Berlin and Chairman of the American Council on Germany, John B. Emerson, and former Federal Foreign Minister and Chairman of the Atlantik-Brücke, Sigmar Gabriel spoke about the domestic and foreign policy priorities of Germany's new government. Juliane Schäuble, U.S. Correspondent, Der Tagesspiegel, moderated the discussion. The event was held in cooperation with the American Council on Germany and the Los Angeles World Affairs Council & Town Hall.
The New Bridge Program
New Bridge is an exclusive study program with a focus on diverse young American professionals underrepresented in the transatlantic community. Multiple times a year, the program will enable current and emerging leaders from a variety of fields and regions in the United States to experience Europe first-hand, engage in an interdisciplinary exchange on transatlantic relations, discuss the rapid changes to societies on both continents, and cultivate lasting personal and professional relationships.

General James Mattis, United States Marine Corps (Ret); 26th U.S. Secretary of Defense,
spoke at Atlantik-Brücke’s Young Leaders Conference 2021 via Zoom.
James N. Mattis is a retired United States Marine Corps four-star general who served as the 26th Secretary of Defense.
During his more than four decades in uniform, Secretary Mattis commanded forces in the Persian Gulf War, in Afghanistan after 9/11, and in the Iraq War in 2003.
From 2007 to 2010, he commanded the United States Joint Forces Command and also served as NATO's Supreme Allied Commander Transformation. He was commander of United States Central Command from 2010 to 2013.
Following his retirement from the U.S. Marine Corps, Secretary Mattis served as the Davies Family Distinguished Visiting Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University. He co-edited the book, "Warriors & Citizens: American Views of Our Military."

As part of the virtual 2020 German-American Conference, Atlantik-Brücke and the American Council on Germany held a joint video discussion titled »Changing Demographics: Diversity in the United States and Germany«.
Our speakers were Prof. Dr. Petra Bendel, Professor of Political Science, Friedrich-Alexander Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg, The Honorable Joaquin Castro (D-TX), Chairman of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus, United States House of Representatives, Janet Murguia, President and CEO, UNIDOS, and Cem Oezdemir, MdB (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen), Deutscher Bundestag.
The discussion was moderated by Michael Werz, Senior Fellow, Center for American Progress.
The speakers discussed the demographic shifts taking place in both Germany and the United States and the likely effects of such changes. The United States is likely to become a "majority-minority" country by the early 2040s, and German society is becoming increasingly diverse - with nearly a quarter of the population with a migration background - and also aging quickly. The panelists also considered how can transatlantic relations can become more inclusive and how changing demographics demographic might help - or hinder - transatlantic cooperation.
